About Us

The Giant Dead Leaf Mantis - Deroplatys Dessicata

Country of Origin: Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Java.

Food: Anything that moves and it can overpower. Crickets, locusts, cockroaches, moths, waxworms, curly wing flies, blue bottle flies, green bottles, fruit flies.

Temperature: 25C – 30﮿C.

Adult Size: Female - 8cm Male – 7cm

Humidity: 70-80% Spray every day to allow to drink and to replicate that malaysian style humidity.

The Giant Dead leafs are a must-have for everyones’ collection. They are relatively long lived, it is not uncommon for females to live up to 18 months.

Both sexes are impressively sized but males especially can be skittish. D.Dessicata have voracious appetites as adults but they can be a bit picky as nymphs, if you are finding your dead leaf bit fussy then opt for slightly smaller prey items.

Adult females have impressive pro thorax camouflage and are bold as brass feeders. I feed my adult females subadult-adult locusts and they are always up for the challenge.

Adult male Dead leafs are rather good fliers, keep this in mind when getting out to handle ie windows closed folks:)
